Frequently asked questions
Everything customers ask before ordering — about materials, preparing files and your account. Can't find the answer? Drop us a line, we usually reply the same working day.
Materials and finishes
Paper or film, laminated or not — how to choose the right material for your packaging.
Get in touchWhat's the difference between paper and film labels?
Paper has a natural matte texture and works best on dry packaging — boxes, bags and jars kept in dry conditions. Film resists moisture, grease and abrasion, so it's the choice for cosmetics, drinks and anything that goes in the fridge or the bathroom.
Which material works in damp conditions or in the fridge?
White or clear film, ideally laminated. Film labels keep their shape and don't peel off with condensation, and the laminate gives the print extra protection. We don't recommend paper labels for damp packaging.
When should I choose clear film?
When you want a “no-label” look — on glass or clear packaging only your design shows. On clear film we recommend printing a white ink layer under the colours: without it the colours let light through and look washed out.
What's special about holographic, gold and silver film?
These are metallised materials for a premium finish — logos and details shine like foil, but without the cost of a printing plate, so they suit short runs too. As with clear film, we suggest a white base under the colours so the print stays rich and the metallic shine shows exactly where you want it.
Are your materials suitable for food packaging?
Yes — we have food-safe materials that we use for honey, cheese, spice and drink labels. If the packaging is in direct contact with food, drop us a line and we'll choose the right material and adhesive.
Do I need lamination? What's the difference between matte and gloss?
Lamination protects the print from moisture, abrasion and sunlight, so we recommend it for almost any packaging that gets handled. Gloss laminate makes colours more vivid and reflects light; matte tones them down, looks more understated and doesn't show fingerprints.
Can stickers be used outdoors?
Laminated film labels are suitable outdoors too — they withstand rain and changes in temperature. How long they last depends on the exact conditions, so if the stickers will be in constant sunlight or on outdoor equipment, drop us a line and we'll advise on the right combination.
Preparing files for print
Formats, resolution, bleed and what happens if your file isn't quite right.
Get in touchWhich file formats do you accept?
Vector formats are best: PDF, AI, EPS or SVG. They stay sharp at any size. Raster PNG, TIFF or JPG files work too, as long as they're at least 300 dpi at the actual print size.
What resolution should my file be?
For raster files — 300 dpi at the size the label will be printed. A 72 dpi image downloaded from the internet will look blurry in print, even if it looks fine on screen. Vector files have no resolution limit.
What is bleed and how much should I leave?
Bleed is the background extended beyond the cut line, so no white edges show after cutting. Leave 2 mm of bleed on all sides, and keep important elements — text and logos — at least 2 mm inside the cut line.
Do I need to convert colours to CMYK?
Yes, we print in CMYK. If you send an RGB file, we'll convert it, but some bright on-screen colours may look slightly different in print. If an exact shade matters, prepare your file in CMYK.
What should I do with fonts?
Convert your fonts to outlines before exporting — that way the artwork looks exactly as you designed it, whatever fonts we have installed. If you can't, include the font files with your order.
I'm not sure my file is suitable. Who will check it?
Every order comes with a free file check: we review the resolution, colours, bleed and cut line, and if we find problems we tell you what to fix. If you choose the professional check (+€15*), we'll fix the file ourselves: improve the resolution, convert the colours, and add bleed and a cut line.
How do I prepare a file for custom-shaped stickers?
Draw the cut line on a separate layer in a separate colour (usually a 100% magenta line named “CutContour”). If you don't have a cut line, we'll draw one for you during the professional file check.
Benefits of an etiketes.lt account
What an account gives you and how it makes repeat orders easier.
Get in touchWhat do I get by creating an account?
You'll see all your orders and their statuses, uploaded artwork and saved delivery addresses in one place. A repeat order takes just a few clicks — no need to pick the options again or resend files.
Can I repeat a previous order?
Yes — every completed order has a “Repeat order” button. It loads the same options, the same artwork and the same quantity, which you can freely adjust before confirming.
Where is my artwork stored?
In the “Artwork” section of your account. There you'll see a preview of each design and the orders it was used in, so you don't need to send the file again when you reorder — just pick the one you've already uploaded.
How does proof approval work?
When we prepare the artwork — for example, for QR code stickers — we send you the finished version for approval. You can review and approve it in your account or by email, and we only start printing once you've approved it.
Will I see my order status?
Yes — your account shows which stage your order is at: received, files checked, in production or shipped. We also email you about the most important updates.
Do I need an account to order?
No — you can order without an account. But with an account, repeat orders are much quicker, and your full order history and artwork are always to hand.
I'm a business customer. Can I save my company details?
Yes — businesses can save their company details in the account, so invoices are issued automatically with the right details, and multiple delivery addresses come in handy if you ship to different shops or warehouses.
